1986 and Ivan has just been painted candy apple red with light gold metal flake. The new 1098, replacing the 850, has less than 100 miles on it and I decide to drive to Denver for the East meets West Mini Meet. The paint was a few days old and the channels for the windows were not even in. I figured I would run into all kinds of vendors when I got there so I left the front windows out. This sets up for my trip.

I leave around noon and head north up I-15 out of Northern San Diego. I get to Escondido, less than 30 miles and somehow we missed tightening a bolt and it found its way through the radiator. Towed back, had an extra and put it in that night, and was back on my way the next morning. Ivan did great. We did however still have a generator and voltage regulator, negative ground, converted years before. We lost our ability to charge the battery so driving in the dark became impossible.

More to come…
